Dingell Update: October 9, 2020

Here is an update for October 9th.
Thought of the day: “So let me say this loud and clear: hatred, bigotry, and violence have no place in the great state of Michigan.” – Governor Whitmer Breaking news of a reported plot to kidnap the Governor was disturbing, but unfortunately not surprising. It rattled a lot of people, and it simply is not who we are in this country. Violence, domestic terrorism, hate, the pitting of us against each other really should worry us. It goes well beyond political disagreement, or quite frankly bullying and plain simple anger at something done or said. It can be terrifying but one also needs to understand that is what they want to accomplish and you simply have to have hope, believe in what you do and keep going and fighting for what is right. When this hate is focused on you, you cannot possibly imagine what the focus of all that passion and anger is like. I hope for many this is a wakeup call to the fear and hatred that have dividing this country and it is time to remember who we are, what we care about, the core values we all share and to believe in each other instead of demonizing each other. We are not enemies of each other, we are a community that helps each other. And that community is the strength of America. Remember: United we stand - divided we fall. I am a proud American. I love this country. And I believe in the best in all of us. Moving a coronavirus relief package through Congress remains frustrating. Let me tell you this, it’s been nearly five months since the House passed the Heroes Act to provide relief to frontline workers, small businesses, and state and local governments. We cannot afford to not get relief directly to the American people. Unemployed workers can’t wait. Small businesses can’t wait. Teachers and nurses can’t wait. Yet, the Administration and the Senate are playing political games and sending mixed signals to the American people. Mixed signals are a disservice and slap in the face to those who need help. Everyday, we hear from workers, small business, and frontline workers desperate for relief. We must act. The pandemic has created a world of new opportunities for fraudsters. During this time of increased isolation, older Americans are more at risk than ever for being the victim of fraud or identity theft.
