Dingell, Tlaib Kayak Detroit River to Highlight Public Lands & Waters Open to All

BROWNSTOWN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, MI – This weekend, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) kayaked the Detroit River during Michigan Trails Week and National Public Lands Day.

The representatives launched from Lake Erie Metropark and emphasized the importance of public lands, especially during the pandemic.

“A perfect fall day spent with my friend Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib kayaking. Saw ducks, critical habitat – and of course sang some too,” said Dingell. “During COVID, everyone deserves the opportunity to be a tourist in their own community. Public lands and waters are critical infrastructure that we must work to continue to protect the Great Lakes, safeguard work done to protect clean water, and fight against rollbacks of environmental protections.”

“Being on the river yesterday with my friend Congresswoman Debbie Dingell yesterday really reminded me of why we fight so hard to protect our water, land, and air: to experience their natural beauty is truly a gift,” said Tlaib. “Their importance may be lost on the Trump Administration, who constantly trades their protection for the profit of corporate polluters, but we will nonetheless continue on our mission to defend them on behalf of generations to come.”
