Dingell Statement on FCC Reallocation of Safety Spectrum

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Debbie Dingell released the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced its decision to reallocate 5.9 GHz spectrum band.

“The FCC’s decision to reallocate spectrum away from the 5.9 GHz band is a significant step in the wrong direction and will pose serious risks to transportation safety long-term. Preserving this spectrum band is critically important to a coalition of stakeholders—including governments, automakers, suppliers, safety groups, first responders, and others—who are focused on advancing innovative, next-generation Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies that will help make giant leaps in transportation safety and build the roads of the future,” Dingell said. “This decision will very likely have real world impacts on public safety, innovation, and jobs. This fight is not over, and I will work tirelessly to ensure this it’s the last word on preserving safety spectrum.”
