Dingell Environmental, Health Care Policies Included in Omnibus Agreement

Spending & COVID relief package includes Dingell priorities on long-term care, natural resources, clean water

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today applauded the inclusion of her proposals to increase investments in clean water for low-income families, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and the Land and Water Conservation Fund in must-pass legislation to fund the federal government. The COVID relief package also includes language drafted by Dingell to improve home and community based care for Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries. Additionally, the agreement includes $10 million for the Fisher House Foundation, which has been a priority for Dingell for years.

“Although this omnibus and COVID relief package is far from perfect, there are policies included that will matter and will make a difference in the lives of our constituents,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “Whether providing clean water for low-income families, investing in our precious natural resources, or increasing access to home and community based care for seniors and people with disabilities, we will enact proposals that will help people immediately. And after seeing firsthand the extraordinary work done by the Fisher House Foundation in Ann Arbor, securing $10 million for the national Foundation brings me immense joy. At the end of a very long year, I am encouraged by the bipartisan support for these ideas I put forward, but I know our work isn’t even close to done.”

Specifically, the omnibus and COVID relief package includes the following priorities put forth by Congresswoman Dingell:

  • $638 million for the Low-Income Household Drinking Water and Wastewater Emergency Assistance Program proposed with Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib
  • $330 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
  • $900 million for the Land and Water Conversation Fund as a result of the enactment of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • $10 million for the Fisher House Foundation
  • $4 million for the Care Corps
  • Language from both her EMPOWER Care Act and Independence at Home Demonstration Improvement Act that will make it easier for seniors and the disabled to receive care in their preferred setting without facing bankruptcy or significant financial hardship
