Dingell on Biden Administration’s Supply Chain Executive Order

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI) today released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s Executive Order to secure supply chains for essential goods, including automotive semiconductor chips and large capacity batteries used by electric vehicles. As author of the USA Electrify Forward Act, Dingell has led efforts in Congress to build the foundation for domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles.

“If we want to be a global leader in the auto and mobility industry, we cannot allow our supply chain to crumble under the slightest pressure of international competition,” said Congresswoman Dingell. “We have workers in Michigan and around the country ready and willing to carry our auto industry into a new era of electric and autonomous vehicles, but we continue to rely on international competitors to supply critical semiconductor chips, large capacity batteries, and critical minerals.

"To address this global shortage, we must engage in urgent diplomacy to protect our workers from immediate job losses. This Executive Order will start the process of shoring up our supply chain, but real, substantive change requires Congressional action. That’s why I will introduce legislation that will transform the electric vehicle infrastructure and incentivize the domestic development of autonomous vehicles.”
