Dingell Statement on EGLE Decision for Gelman Superfund Listing

DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced its support for allowing the Gelman dioxane plume to seek addition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Superfund National Priorities List for federal clean-up:

“EGLE’s decision to allow the communities impacted by the Gelman dioxane plume to move forward in the process of adding this site to the federal Superfund clean-up list is an important step. After EGLE’s comprehensive assessment of the site, this decision reflects the next step in this process,” said Rep. Dingell. “For decades, the growing dioxane plume has been spreading through Ann Arbor’s groundwater, posing a concerning threat to our families and the surrounding environment. Our communities have worked together to get us to this point, and I will continue to work with all federal, state, and local officials, as well as all stakeholders involved, to ensure this contamination is properly remediated and our public health is protected long-term.”
