Dingell Joins President Biden on Visit to Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center

DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) joined President Biden in Dearborn, MI to tour Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in anticipation of the all-electric F-150 truck launch. President Biden emphasized the need for strong, electric vehicle infrastructure investments and manufacturing polices that support good-paying, American union jobs. Dingell released the below statement following the event:

“American ingenuity has not stopped in Dearborn and is helping lead the world in the transition to an all-electric future. We saw that firsthand today at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center as they work hard to launch the all new electric F-150 Lightning truck. It’s in our country’s best interest to make the vehicles of the future here with the best workforce in the world. Maintaining good-paying, union jobs here in the United States will help us lead on mobility technology and innovation and stay ahead of our global competitors.

“The launch of a new electric version of one of the most popular vehicles in the United States is an important moment for Ford, the United States, and the global push for electrification. The President’s visit to Dearborn represents the need for critical electric vehicle infrastructure, which is why he proposed a $174 billion investment in the American Jobs Plan – focusing on infrastructure, domestic supply chains, accessibility, and a strong workforce.

“To maintain our leadership and competitiveness, we need to be intentional and intersectional as we work together: workers and environmentalists, the auto industry and utility industry, and Democrats and Republicans. This is the only way we can protect jobs and keep the supply chain here in the United States while also combatting the climate crisis and strengthening our economy.”
