Dingell Applauds Supervision Order for Detroit Man in Sanctuary

DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after the Detroit Immigration and Customs Enforcement office granted Ded Rranxburgaj an order of supervision, finally allowing him to leave Detroit’s Central United Methodist Church, in which he took sanctuary, for the first time in three years:

“For three long years, Ded and his wife Flora sought protection in Detroit’s Central United Methodist Church. This family has been a force of strength – caring for one another amidst sickness, isolation, and uncertainty. As we recognize the strength of the Rranxburgaj family, we must also recognize that our immigration system is still very broken.

“People come to the United States to seek peace, comfort, and safety. And yet, they’re met with an immigration system that isn’t prepared to help. Ded’s supervised freedom is an important step, but there is more work to do. We have a moral responsibility to reform our immigration system so that it’s fair and meets the basic humanitarian standards for every human being.”
