Dingell Statement on Passage of Bipartisan January 6th Commission

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the following statement after voting to pass legislation to establish a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol:

“What happened on January 6th will forever haunt the center of our democracy. That dark day wasn’t the America we know and believe in. Families lost loved ones, Members of Congress and staff were traumatized, and law enforcement put everything on the line – all because people were encouraged to come to the U.S. Capitol with a purpose to stop a constitutional process through violence.

“Today, Congress passed the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol Complex Act. This vote represents a unified effort to preserve our democracy and ensure no one can disrupt it. We need a full accounting of what happened on this day and to hold those responsible for the January 6th assault accountable for their violent actions.

“This can’t happen again. We must set aside politics and put humanity at the forefront. We need the straight facts and an independent, bipartisan commission will lead us there.”
