Dingell Statement on UAW President Rory Gamble’s Retirement

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) released the below statement following the announcement of UAW President Rory Gamble’s retirement after 47 years with UAW:

“Rory Gamble took over as the first African American President of the UAW at a critical moment to represent generations of workers who have and continue to keep our nation at the forefront of the global auto industry. After a time filled with instability, Rory stepped in and restored the faith of UAW’s loyal members in Michigan and around the country.

“As we work to maintain and create good-paying union jobs while also advancing auto innovation and domestic manufacturing, I am thankful to have had Rory as a leader and partner in this fight. His ability to connect with anyone and fight tirelessly for workers is second to none. He leaves this role with a record of meaningful reform and stability for workers, a testament to his steadfast leadership and passion for workers’ rights.

“Rory has been a true friend of mine for decades, first meeting at our Local UAW 600 and building our friendship from there. He has promised me he will still be there at the other end of the phone whenever needed. I will miss having Rory around, but I know his next job as a full-time grandparent to 34 will keep him plenty busy.”
