Dingell Applauds FDA Proposal to Improve Access to Hearing Aids for Millions

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Dingell (MI-12) released the below statement applauding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) proposed rule to establish a new category of over-the-counter hearing aids. As the author of the Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act, Dingell has been a leader in hearing aid accessibility and affordability for years.

“Expanding coverage for hearing aids and ensuring their accessibility was the very first issue I addressed in Congress through the Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act. Today’s announcement from the FDA is a major step forward for hearing health and will increase the accessibility of affordable hearing aid options for those who need them. The proposed rule underscores the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to addressing hearing healthcare, and I look forward to continuing to work with them on opportunities to improve access to hearing aids and reduce healthcare costs for all Americans. Making hearing aids more accessible and affordable will not only change the lives of people with hearing loss, but also the lives of their family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. It’s this simple: no one should feel isolated, confused, or shutout from the world because they cannot afford the treatment they need.”
