Dingell Announces $1,208,490 in Funding for Students in Southeast Michigan

DEARBORN, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) announced $1,208,490 in grant funding for educational institutions in Southeast Michigan through the Teaching Primary Sources program at the Library of Congress. This funding includes $1,141,490 for the University of Michigan to enhance social studies inquiry and writing with primary sources in English Learners and students of color, $42,000 for the Michigan Council for the Social Studies for professional development for 3rd-12th grade teachers in Ann Arbor, Holland, and Oakland, and $25,000 for professional development for middle and high school history teachers across Michigan.

“Continuing to invest in our student’s education is one of the most important things we can do to ensure students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed,” said Dingell. “With this grant funding from the Library of Congress, we will continue to improve the education of students throughout Michigan’s 12th District by making significant investments in critical learning tools and materials.”

The Library of Congress awards Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) grants to build a nationwide network of organizations that deliver educational programming and create teaching materials and tools based on the Library’s digitized primary sources and other online resources.
