Dingell Joins Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge Re-opening

GROSSE ILE, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) celebrated the re-opening of the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge, which had been closed for repairs since May of 2020.

“Today we’re celebrating the impact that investing in and maintaining critical infrastructure can have on the success of our communities. The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge is 150 years old, and we have a responsibility to strengthen it and ensure the safety of our neighbors,” said Dingell. “The absence of the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge impacted the daily lives of so many who work and live in Grosse Ile. Now, after over a year of its closure, we’re proud to stand here today with a stronger bridge that will help thousands of residents get to work, go to school, and get on and off the island easier. This revamping process underscores the importance of government at all levels working together to respond to significant issues impacting Michiganders – including boosting our local economy by improving our roads and bridges. Over $10 billion – $563 million just for bridges – is coming to Michigan as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. We need our Downriver communities working together with the rest of Southeast Michigan to identify projects that need immediate attention. I am committed to working with everyone about why this matters in so many ways. This country, this state, and this region must maintain these investments going forward so we can rebuild and maintain our infrastructure and keep America resilient. It’s time to fix our damn roads.”

Dingell worked closely with Wayne County executives, Grosse Ile Township supervisors, and state officials to efficiently strengthen the bridge and ensure residents have a safe method to get on and off the island.
