Dingell Statement on President Joe Biden’s First State of the Union

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today released the following statement after attending President Joe Biden’s first State of the Union Address. Dingell serves as a co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.

“Tonight, President Joe Biden delivered the steady leadership and vision that this nation and our world demand in this moment. The President made clear to Vladimir Putin that his unprovoked, illegal invasion of Ukraine will carry immense consequences, and that our NATO and European allies stand united. We stand ready to support the Ukrainian people with humanitarian and military aid, as well as increased sanctions on Russia, as this assault on their homeland and sovereignty continues.

“In his first State of the Union, he presented a clear vision for building a better America, and he showed a deep understanding of the challenges rising costs are causing our neighbors and working families. And he made clear that his Administration and Congress are taking concrete actions to lower those costs and provide families with the economic security they have earned. Through the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we have created the fastest job growth in American history, and we will not stop fighting for our workers in Michigan, throughout the Midwest, and across this country. Led by auto industry workers bringing our mobility sector into a new era, we will bury the phrase ‘Rust Belt’ as a relic of the past.

“More than ever, we need to execute on the President’s call for a unity agenda to beat the opioid crisis, take on the mental health crisis, support our veterans, and end cancer as we know it. We need to stand strong against Putin’s aggression, emerge from this global health pandemic that has taken far too many of our relatives, friends, and neighbors, rebuild an economy with strong domestic supply chains, and invest in a swift transition to a clean economy. We have far too much work to do and there’s far too much at stake to let partisan politics divide us. It’s time to build a better America.”
