Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the United States reaching its debt limit. 

 “Congress must act immediately to raise the debt ceiling. Republicans holding our economy hostage for political showmanship is dangerous: Default, and even the threat of default, will have devastating effects that primarily hurt working families, including recession, delayed social security payments, and spiking interest rates. This isn’t a partisan issue – Republicans voted three times to raise the debt ceiling under the previous president – this is about our economic and national security. We must move to raise the debt ceiling now, to meet obligations we have already made, and work on balancing the budget moving forward.”
