Members of Congress Launch Heartland Caucus
Washington,
January 25, 2023
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) was joined by nearly 20 members of Congress to launch the Heartland Caucus. The caucus is being launched with the primary purpose of engaging on and advocating for the issues important to the people of the American Heartland, including manufacturing, labor, the Great Lakes, energy and environment, agriculture, racial equity, rural health care, trade, broadband, and infrastructure. The goals of the Heartland Caucus include ensuring that views, values, and issues of the backbone of America are heard, prioritized, and included as policy is considered and enacted by the U.S. Congress. “The Heartland built this country into what it is today. We make things and we grow things – our states are rich in resources, the most important of which are the hard-working men and women who live, work, and raise their families here, and who keep our nation running,” Dingell said. “We must ensure that as we’re creating policy here in Washington, that we’re prioritizing the views, values, and issues of these communities at home that too often are not included in policy consideration and Congressional action. I thank all my colleagues who are joining me in this effort to fight for the issues that matter to the Heartland.” Congresswoman Dingell was joined by Representatives Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Mike Quigley (IL-05), Bill Foster (IL-11), Joyce Beatty (OH-03), Sean Casten (IL-06), Angie Craig (MN-02), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), Dean Phillips (MN-03), Haley Stevens (MI-11), Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), Jonathan Jackson (IL-01), Delia Ramirez (IL-03), Emilia Sykes (OH-13), Shri Thanedar (MI-13), and Eric Sorensen (IL-17).
