Dingell Celebrates Paczki Day 2023

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today celebrated Paczki Day, an indulgent Polish tradition before the fasting of Lent, by delivering the traditional Polish donuts to friends in the media and first responders across Michigan’s 6th District. Delivering paczki in celebration of this day is a Dingell family tradition started by John Dingell many years ago when he served in Congress.

“The Dingell family immigrated to the United States from Poland, and Paczki Day is a Polish tradition and celebration of Fat Tuesday – the last chance to indulge before the fasting days of Lent,” said Dingell. “Celebrating this heritage on Paczki Day with friends each year is a reminder that our history and culture are important. Sharing customs such as this from one generation to the next keeps us connected, together, and honors our right diversity.

“It’s a reminder of the importance of respecting cultures and backgrounds that help make this nation strong. Understanding and learning from our rich heritage bring us together as a community.

“As we celebrate the Polish heritage of the Dingell family, this Paczki Day reminds us that we are stronger when we work together and focus on what unites us instead of what divides us.

“Happy Paczki Day—and don’t think about any of the calories!”

Today, Dingell joined our friends in the media from Southeast Michigan to share in today’s festivities. Please find links to some of today’s Paczki Day interviews below.
