Great Lakes Task Force Recognizes National Maritime Day
WASHINGTON,
May 22, 2023
Representatives Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Bill Huizenga (R-MI), David Joyce (R-OH), and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Co-Chairs of the bipartisan House Great Lakes Task Force, released the following statement recognizing National Maritime Day.
“The Great Lakes Task Force is proud to celebrate May 22nd as National Maritime Day, which was declared by Congress ninety years ago, and was established to honor the SS Savannah’s 1819 transatlantic ocean voyage. Since that time, the Merchant Marine and our entire maritime community, and industry have continued to drive economic growth and promote national security. We are resolved to support this cherished American tradition and we thank them for their invaluable contributions to the fabric of our nation, particularly in our districts, where they support tens of thousands of jobs across the Great Lakes Region.”
