Dingell, Tlaib Statement on VA Inspector General Review of Leadership at John D. Dingell Detroit VA Medical Center

Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-06) and Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) released the following statement in response to the report by the Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General on leadership at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit. The report comes at the request of Reps. Dingell and Tlaib, who initially raised concerns with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough in 2021 after hearing from patients and employees at the VA.

“We are thankful to Secretary McDonough for taking our concerns seriously when we first raised them, and thankful to VA Inspector General Michael J. Missal for leading this review, which is an important step to providing patients at the John D. Dingell VA the standard of care they deserve. Now we must rebuild trust with veterans, their families, and the whole VA community. We want to reassure our veterans that we are both personally engaged, have been from the beginning, and will remain so throughout this process. We are optimistic about the new leadership already in place at the Detroit VA, which will continue to work with the OIG to effectively implement their recommendations on provider oversight, surgical services, and quality reviews. Secretary McDonough has previously committed to coming to the VA for a town hall to have an honest exchange with the community and we look forward having him in Detroit. We remain committed to ensuring that all veterans being treated at the John Dingell VA Medical Center are getting the best care possible.”
