Dingell Announces More Than $8.4 Million in HHS Grants for the University of Michigan

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today announced that the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor will receive $8,441,457 in federal grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to conduct research in areas including Biological Response to Environmental Health Hazards, Mental Health, Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation, Oral Diseases and Disorders, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry, Heart and Vascular Diseases, Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic, Aging, Mothers and Children, and Cancer Cause and Prevention.

"This funding is crucial to continue research into how we can better support those living with chronic disease," Dingell said. "The research taking place at UM will help advance a variety of medications, therapies, and treatments for different diseases, and improve patient quality of life.” 

Projects receiving funding include:

$947,618 for Mental Health Research Grants
$1,210,866 for Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation Research
$643,224 for Oral Diseases and Disorders Research
$1,662,818 for Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry Research
$1,260,289 for Aging Research
$125,157 for Heart and Vascular Diseases Research
$1,007,929 for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic Research
$84,023 for Cancer Cause and Prevention Research
$440,366 for Research for Mothers and Children
