Dingell Announces More Than $17.6 Million in HHS Grants for the University of Michigan

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today announced that the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor will receive $17,646,985 in federal grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to conduct research in areas including de-implementation of low-value testing in patients undergoing low-risk surgery, aging, pharmacology, physiology, and biological chemistry, lung diseases, drug abuse and addiction programs, diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic, mental health, firearm injury prevention for rural families, oral diseases and disorders, neurological disorders, and vision. 
 
More than $3.5 million of this funding will be dedicated to cancer center support, treatment, cause, and prevention research. 
 
"This funding is crucial to continue research into how we can best support Michiganders with a cancer diagnosis undergoing treatment, as well as supporting the centers that provide them comfort and resources,” Dingell said.

$377,396 for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Research
$1,266,378 for Mental Health Research Grants
$470,325 for Store Safely: Firearm injury prevention for rural families
$312,000 for Oral Diseases and Disorders Research
$4,483,586 for Clinical Research Related to Neurological Disorders
$1,332,743 for Vision Research
$856,489 for Cancer Cause and Prevention Research
