Dingell Announces Drug-Free Communities Award for Dexter

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today announced SRSLY Dexter and Dexter Community Schools have been selected by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to receive a Drug-Free Communities Support Program Continuation Award. The Drug-Free Communities Support Program invests in community efforts to mobilize individuals and organizations to prevent youth substance use.

“SRSLY Dexter is helping to guide youth through challenging times and empowering them to make good decisions, especially at a time when more young people are feeling alone and disconnected from their communities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dingell. “Their efforts support families across Southeast Michigan and their work is so meaningful in helping kids and young adults reach their full potential.”

“Dexter Community Schools and the SRSLY Dexter coalition is honored to receive this award as well as the support of Congresswoman Dingell,” said Chrissie Kremzier, SRSLY Dexter Coalition Director. “We have been supported by the Drug-Free Communities Grant for the past nine years, and we are proud of the work we have accomplished with this funding. Youth substance use prevention is integral to ensuring teens can reach their full potential. That is why we are engaging our students early and often and providing them with the information and support needed to make healthy, positive decisions for themselves.”

SRSLY Dexter is a coalition that encourages youth to make healthy choices by educating, advocating, and preventing youth substance use.  In so doing, members promote personal and community health and wellness as well as cultivate a change in the community norms.
