Dingell Applauds Biden Administration Investment in EV Charging Infrastructure
ANN ARBOR, Mich.,
August 28, 2024
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell today applauded the Biden-Harris Administration’s $521 million investment in EV charging infrastructure across the country, including $2.8 million for the City of Ann Arbor to install 48 publicly available chargers and close gaps in EV charging infrastructure, specifically in low-income areas. The project sites will be located at park and rides lots, multi-unit dwellings, and large retails spaces.
“It should be as easy to charge your electric vehicle as it is to fill up at the gas station. These funds are critical to making EVs more practical and accessible in our community,” Dingell said. “I thank the Biden-Harris Administration for their continued commitment to expanding EV charging infrastructure and accessibility nationwide, and keeping America and American workers at the forefront of auto innovation.” “Ensuring everyone has access to clean, safe, and healthy mobility options, including electric vehicles, is a critical element of the City of Ann Arbor’s work to achieve a just transition to community-wide carbon neutrality,” said Mayor Christopher Taylor. “With this award from the U.S. DOT, we will be one step closer to ensuring that everyone, no matter where you live, work, or recreate, has access to safe and reliable EV charging infrastructure.” This new EV infrastructure will increase access and reliability to communities across the country and provides EV charging to light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles along designated highways, interstates, and major roadways. The funds are a part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s goals to support the growth of a convenient, affordable, reliable and Made-in-America national network of EV chargers so drivers can charge close to home, at work, and along significant corridors throughout the U.S. Since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration, the number of publicly available EV chargers has doubled. Now, there are over 192,000 publicly available charging ports with approximately 1,000 new public chargers being added each week. This progress is a testament to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the catalyzing effect it has had on private investments for EV charging infrastructure. Through programs like the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program and the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, the Biden-Harris Administration is playing a critical role alongside private industry, to actively expand America’s EV charging network while creating good-paying, union jobs. |
