Dingell Statement on Steel and Aluminum Tariffs
Washington,
February 10, 2025
Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the new 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. “We need to advance trade policies that strengthen our economy, support manufacturing, and protect the auto industry. Steel and aluminum are the backbone of American manufacturing, and for generations, strong domestic industries have enabled the United States to lead globally. I welcome efforts to address global overcapacity, which has allowed bad actors, like China, to unfairly flood our markets — harming American workers and businesses. “Our domestic manufacturing is closely linked with North America, but Canada and Mexico must be treated as two separate countries. Across-the-board tariffs, without time for companies to adjust, risk unintended consequences — hurting American workers, disrupting supply chains, and raising costs for consumers. |
