Dingell Helps Pass Bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act

U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today voted in support of the bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act, a package of bills that dedicates $6.3 billion over 10 years to fund critical biomedical research and fight the opioid epidemic. The legislation also includes much-needed mental health reforms.

“Today’s passage of the 21st Century Cures Act is a bipartisan success that will bring hope to millions of Americans and transform the way we treat diseases in this country. Not only will this legislation bring our health care infrastructure into the 21st century to get cures to the patients who need them, it will provide critical resources to fix our broken mental health system and address the opioid crisis, which is affecting too many families across the country.

“The 21st Century Cures Act will have a positive impact on every patient who is waiting for a cure, every family that suffers from mental illness, and every American who is addicted to opioids or loves someone who is. I want to thank Fred Upton and Diana DeGette for their strong bipartisan leadership on this critical effort. It is because of their commitment and years of hard work that this win for patients and families will cross the finish line.”
