ANN ARBOR, MI - Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) issued the following statement after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced that the University of Michigan will receive a five-year, $53 million grant to support the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research:
“Our Great Lakes matter to so many, and I am grateful that NOAA recognizes the important work the University of Michigan is doing to sustain this natural wonder for generations to come. With this funding, the University will be able to expand its work to protect the Great Lakes from the impact of our climate crisis, as well as find solutions for invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and more. “The Great Lakes are not only a natural resource, but a way of life that support communities and jobs throughout the region. As a co-chair of the Great Lakes Task Force, protecting this natural treasure is a top priority. I will continue to fight to ensure the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative receives the funding it needs so that we can create good paying jobs, enjoy outdoor activities on the lakes, and protect the health and beauty the lakes have to offer.” |
