ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) released the following statement on the mass shooting that took place last night at Michigan State University. “Last night, we sat stunned and horrified as a gunman was on the loose after killing three students and injuring five more on the Michigan State University campus, paralyzing the East Lansing region with fear. We cannot express enough gratitude for the brave first responders who once again ran towards danger to keep our community safe and worked around the clock to keep us updated. “We lost three students last night. The families ofBrian Fraser, Alexandria Verner, and Arielle Diamond Anderson sent their children to college to get an education and prepare for a bright future. They had their whole lives ahead of them and now their families and friends will never see them again. “And today, we are not only mourning the loss of three students and praying for the five injured, but we are also remembering the seventeen innocent lives taken by another gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School five years ago on this day. This must stop. It just has to. “Our kids are begging us to do something to keep them safe. And to be blunt, we are failing them. Congress has a moral obligation to hear their pleas and take serious action to end the senseless gun violence that’s devastating communities across our country. It’s unconscionable that so many of our kids go to school every day with the fear they may not make it home. This violence is preventable, and Congress has the responsibility to pass serious reform before more lives are cut short.” |
