Southgate News Herald: Dingell invites local students to again make ‘Valentines for Veterans’

Southgate News Herald

Following up on the success of last year’s “Valentines for Veterans” event U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-12th District) asking local students from across her district to help keep the program going.

Dingell is asking students to make handmade cards for local veterans in order to show them they are “loved and appreciated.”

“We need your help again on this important project to show our veterans that we love them as much as they love our country,” said Dingell.

Once the cards are made staff members from Dingell’s local offices in Dearborn and Ypsilanti can arrange for a pickup, or they can be dropped off at either office.

After “Valentines for Veterans” received such an overwhelming response from veterans, schools and the community last year, Dingell launched the year-round “Sending Smiles to Vets” program, which engages young people on an ongoing basis to create cards and artwork for veterans. The program celebrates various seasons and holidays, including Independence Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

The cards are being accepted through Feb. 11, and will be delivered that weekend.
