ANN ARBOR, MI – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and her colleague, Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton, visited the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Ann Arbor to meet with veterans ahead of the July 4th holiday. Moulton, a combat veteran himself, joined Dingell in distributing “Smiles for Veterans” to patients in an effort to brighten their days. They also met with hospital officials and representatives of veterans organizations to receive an update on issues veterans are experiencing. Photos from the visit are available here. “Independence Day reminds us of the freedoms that we have, and that we can never take for granted. Our vets fought to keep us free, and this is an important week to thank them,” said Dingell. “It was great to welcome Congressman Moulton, a veteran himself who understands personally issues facing our servicemembers and veterans.” Since coming to Congress, Dingell has long advocated for our nation’s veterans. Last month, Dingell lead an amendment that passed the House which doubles federal support for Fisher House from $5 to $10 million. Fisher House has served over 335,000 families, provided over eight million days of lodging and saved military families more than $407 million in out-of-pocket expenses. There are currently 76 Fisher Houses located on 24 military installations and 32 VA medical centers – one is currently being built in Ann Arbor ### |
